I'M NOW A CIVIL CELEBRANT
When first I wanted to become
A Civil Celebrant,
I did a course because I felt
I must be relevant.
I heard about this College that
Our Dally runs for us,
I paid my fees and started out
Without a hint of fuss.
At first I found van Gennep was
So difficult to follow,
But then I learned, as time went by,
His theories are not hollow!
Indeed, they make a lot of sense
As students now may see,
His Rites of Passage teachings are
A real necessity.
I worked for many hours you know,
From Module 1 to 3,
Including Marriage Module 2,
(This course was testing me!)
I then moved on to Module 4
So Funerals I can do,
A most important line of work
From any point of view.
Well, I have now been authorised,
And I could hardly wait!
Attorney General's busy staff
Have much work on their plate -
But now I have a note from them,
To say, "Yes, go ahead -
Do Marriages and Funerals well,
To earn your daily bread."
And now to Dally Messenger,
I'd like to say "thank-you",
And College Dean, Chris Watson,
My answers he worked through -
And kindly marked assignments
I fortunately passed,
And as tonight I graduate,
I breathe again at last!
Now finally to students all,
I offer this advice:
Complete the course and do your best -
The work is very nice!
